The studio was invited to present design proposals for the regeneration of a prime site on Barcelona´s prestigious Avenida Diagonal opposite two Modernista era landmark buildings. The existing building (1932) had to be retained but the internal was un-usable as a modern hotel so the proposal proposed a facade retention design that would maximise the room sizes and offer the standard of amenities required for a four and five star hotel.

Our proposal also retained a a part of the footprint for an elevated garden facing West so that the deep plan would benefit from two aspects and increase the quality of all rooms in the building without sacrificing significant area in exchange. The design proposed 100 double rooms with en-suite bathrooms, ten of which were deluxe suites. There would also be dining room, all -day brasserie, lounge bar, reception and underground parking on two levels.A sweeping arc of glass and timber shading screens form the perimeter of the building facade facing the garden over which planting will grow and link to the party wall sections that define the back of the site – creating an oasis of green in the city centre. Roof terrace areas will house a cafe and spa area.
